An Anatolian Shepherd refused to leave his human’s property amid the devastating fire that took more than seventeen days to contain. Many lives were lost as the campfire raged across Paradise, California. Madison never left the house as he waited patiently for his owner, Andrea Gaylord, and his brother, Miguel.
The two dogs got separated during the fire. Miguel tried to look for Gaylord and lost his way. A rescuer found Miguel and decided to take him to a shelter 85 miles away from the area. Madison chose to stay through the disaster until his owner returned.
Gaylord was not able to return home when the fire began. She hoped that her dogs would survive. She contacted a friend, Shayla Sullivan, to see what’s left of her house.
She saw Madison, but Miguel was nowhere to be found. Madison refused to come with her, so Shayla chose to leave some food and water for him. Shayla always returned to check on Madison.
After the evacuation period, Gaylord was able to return. She felt blessed when she found Madison waiting patiently by what was left of her home. The poor pu[ was so happy when he finally saw her after a month. Madison approached her with a smile and a wagging tail while Gaylord gave him a lot of doggie treats.
She said that she couldn’t ask for a better dog. After what Madison had done, she was more than fortunate to have a dog so loyal like him. Madison kept waiting for them to return through the worst circumstances.
86 people lost their lives to the devastation and scorched 153,336 acres of land. A storm followed after the fire, and the two disasters ruined almost 19,000 buildings. Miguel was reunited with Madison and Gaylord, and they began to recover as a family once more.
