Dogs are pluviophiles, just like the rest of us. They enjoy listening to the raindrops tap on the window sill, as if lulling them to sleep. When they’re outdoors, they like to dance as the clouds wet the grounds with rain. They would run after each drop, catch them with their tongue, and pretend they were raindrops.
As fun as it is to watch pups play in the rain, seeing one who refuses to move despite getting drenched is a totally different story. Case in point is a Golden Retriever who was made to wait outside Morrisons, one of United Kingdom’s supermarket chains. The poor thing just sat outside as it rained.
Under my umbrella
Ethan Dearman, a Morrisons security guard, saw the Golden Retriever while doing his rounds. He approached the pup to cover him with an umbrella. Dearman wasn’t sure if the pup was enjoying the situation he was in, but when he noticed the Golden Retriever was tied to a post, he decided to protect him from the rain.
As it turns out, there wasn’t any sign of rain when the owner tied the pooch to the post. Unfortunately, the owner was already inside the store when it started to drizzle. Dearman felt bad for the dog. He wanted to move him, but since he wasn’t allowed to do that, he opted tor the next best thing: to hold his umbrella over him.
When good deeds go unnoticed
Mel Gracie, a Glasgow-based tattoo artist, saw the whole thing. The 25-year-old was sitting in her car when she noticed what Dearman did for the dog. She took a picture of the security guard’s adorable gesture and uploaded it on Twitter. Grace also tagged Morrisons so they would know about his good deed.
Dearman and the Golden Retriever’s photo received over 20,000 retweets and 152,000 likes. Some called him a hero for keeping the dog dry and demanded that Morrisons give him a raise for looking after the welfare of the store’s patrons and their furry friends.
